WhiskeyJack_Artword-6-14-14_680Duncan Fremlin, one of Canada’s premier banjo players, met co-founding member of Whiskey Jack, mandolin/fiddle player John Hoffman in 1977. They liked playing together so much that they promptly quit their day jobs and began a seemingly endless tour of Canadian musical venues as Whiskey Jack. Untold numbers of musicians have been lured into the Whiskey Jack web, and now after 30 years this band is still going strong and performing some of the finest music in its history. (Tommy Hunter Show, touring with Stompin’ Tom Connors)
Band members include: Bob McNiven guitar, Eric Jackson double bass, Howard Willett vocals and harmonica, Michelle Josef drums/percussion, Randy Morrison fiddle (winner of the prestigious Canadian Bluegrass Award for fiddle-player-of-the-year three years running.)
Guest musician: Dr. Denis Lepage, champion banjo wizard and long time member of the local bluegrass scene. “Denis was the most important professional banjo player in Canada in the ’70’s and ’80’s. In those years, he toured the country with the best Canadian bluegrass bands, Dixie Flyers and Station Road. He also found time to release three solo albums on Boot Records featuring mostly original songs. If you look at the credits on the albums recorded in that era, you’ll likely see Denis as the featured banjo player. He continues to play and teach in the St. Catharines area.”
