Telling Our Stories: Join us at Artword Artbar, 15 Colbourne St., Hamilton, for creative writing gatherings facilitated by Martyn Kendrick, every other Thursday evening 7 to 9 pm, starting Thursday January 21, then Feb 4, Feb 18….
These sessions will introduce novice and seasoned writers to a remarkable tool that triggers highly creative writing. The writing happens effortlessly (at least the first draft anyway). We are especially interested in capturing stories of our communities, such as the north end of Hamilton. You need no previous writing experience to tell your story. You merely have to be able to see it once again and write what you see hear and feel. And that€™s what we€™ll work on. You will be surprised by the power of your own voice. The atmosphere is safe and supportive. We are not meeting to criticize but to create.
We€™ll occasionally have guest writers, storytellers from varied traditions, and other notable characters who have something valuable to share. Did you know that Charlie Chiarelli started innocently as a memoir writer using his family and life experience as the basis of his now famous storytelling performances? So, if you have stories in you waiting to be told, come join us and turn your life into literature.
Facilitator Martyn Kendrick is an artist working with stone, the author of seven books, and a former instructor in McMaster€™s Writing Certificate Program. His book, Writing Lifestories and Other Fictions, is available at your local library. More about Martyn at www.labyrinthkeys.com
