Kamocki-Allaby image12.jpgBigda_Artbar_650.jpgFriday March 9, from 7 to 10 pm, James North Art Crawl, artists present. In the Gallery for the month of March, “Hybrids & Counterparts“, an exhibition of ceramic sculptures by three McMaster art students: Jessica Bigda, Morgan Kamocki Allaby, and Paige Woodhouse. The sculptures have in common an exploration, through the physicality of clay, of hybrid anatomies that are part human, part animal.

Statement by the Artists: “Hybrids & Counterparts is the work of three students, Jessica Bigda, Morgan Kamocki Allaby, and Paige Woodhouse. from the Honours Art Program at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Their ceramic sculptures address concepts of hybridity through exploration of compound human and animal anatomies. The artists embrace the physicality of clay with various methods of construction; this pushes the boundaries of experimentation and enables freedom during the process of creation. Hybrids & Counterparts may be interpreted as a reawakening of our metaphysical environment and challenges our human consciousness to become synthesized with the enigmas of nature. Through careful consideration for presentation, colour, form and texture, each ceramic composition commands a unique presence to establish a psychological and sensory dialogue with the viewer.

Hybrids & Counterparts ignites the imagination and challenges the position of human identity in natural and psychological landscapes. The exhibition aims to invigorate viewers through fusion of diverse structures inspired by the relationship between the human and the organic. ”
