June 16, 8:00 p.m., 1994

The full name of this event: Songs of Pain, Passion, Pleasure, Loss, Sex, Death, Joy, Surrealism, Despair, Angst and Nova Scotia. This pretty much covered the repertoire presented. Almost all the songs were by Mhairi Fyfe and Archie Hughes, who performed them.

We liked the songs a lot and we liked Mhairi as an actor. We collaborated (Ron, Mhairi, Archie and Judith) on the theatre work me2, which opened two weeks after this. This was our opportunity to showcase the songwriting talents of Mhairi and Archie.

A native of Nova Scotia, Mhairi rediscovered the joy of singing a year previous when she joined a local rock band. Realize her talents were better suited to cafes than biker clubs, Mhairi left the band to concentrate on composing original material with the band's keyboardist, Archie Hughes.

Archie Hughes's piano adventure began at fifteen when his parents bought him a previously-owned upright for twenty-five dollars. An architect, he played keyboards with the local celtic rock band Taliesin, as well as writing songs with Mhairi and composing film scores.
