Artword Theatre celebrates its new 150-seat theatre with an action-packed week-long series of events hosted by Don Cullen. Highlights are appearances by poets Dennis Lee and Susan Perly on Thursday, and by performance artist/dancer Margaret Dragu on Saturday.
Tuesday is Dance night. A strong contingent of Toronto's top contemporary dancers will try out Artword's new double-sprung stage floor in a showcase evening. Performing are choreographer/dancers Michael DuMaresq, Susanna Hood, Hedy Minten, Carly Wong, Terril Maguire, Tweenies Sally Morgan and Holly Treddenick, and Lisa Sandlos' Young Contemporary Dancers.
Wednesday is Storytelling night with Clare Nobbs, Dan Yashinsky, Carol McGirr, Judy Fong Bates, fiddler Anne Lederman.
Thursday is Poetry Plus night. The evening includes "Interaction Incorporated": poets Dennis Lee and Susan Perly, musicians Geordie McDonald, Doreen Smith, Tony Quarrington, Mike Morse and dancer Tom Brouillette (text by David Donnell). Also appearing is sound performance artist Nobuo Kubota, and poet Allan Briesmaster.
Friday is Music night with William Beauvais (classical guitar), Brian Katz (original compositions for guitar and piano), Njacko Backo (African kalimba - thumb piano), Timothy Minthorn (original compositions for piano) Greg Morrison and Steve Morel (songs from "The Age of Dorian").
Saturday is Theatre night. West-coast performance artist Margaret Dragu performs "Eine Kleine Nacht Radio" and "Improvisation in the Shape of X's & O's". Singer/raconteur Allan Merovitz will present excerpts from his show "The Wedding Project". Also performing is comedian Don Cullen.
