From Factory to Gallery (and Theatre): The Renovation Story

< Start with a former factory is the historical garment district of Toronto. Make walls. Turn the loading dock into a glass entrance. Put fresh drywall on old concrete walls. (Photo left, October 1998. Photo below, same view point, March 1999 -- almost finished.)

The gallery on its way to becoming a wonderful industrial exhibition space -- and the double doors in the south wall lead to Artword Theatre.

The main gallery is 73 feet long, 15 feet wide and 16 feet high, with high industrial windows on part of the north wall (see photo left).
Length of exhibition wall space, clockwise from the entrance: 38 + 22 + 12 + 22 + 26 = 100 running feet.

The north gallery, at right angles to the main gallery, leads to washrooms and emergency exit.
The north gallery is about 50 feet long, 10 feet wide and 11 feet high. Length of exhibition wall space: 34 feet west wall and 46 feet east wall.
