Judith Sandiford: Paintings from The Virtual Museum
April 4 to 29 2001
Artword Gallery is showing several large-scale works from The Virtual Museum by Judith Sandiford. These multiple-panel paintings and drawings, done between 1988 and 1993, express Sandiford's interpretation of ideas in contemporary physics and cosmology, ideas about the origins of the universe, particle physics and cosmic evolution. Together, the works constitute The Virtual Museum, divided conceptually into "rooms". Some of this work was exhibited at Workscene Gallery where Sandiford was an active member in the early 90s, but most of the "rooms" have not been exhibited except in a studio. Reception, Wednesday, April 11, 4 - 7 pm
Water: Images by Anonymous 20th Century Photographers.
Curated by Catherine Lash and Jennifer Long
May 3 - June 7, 2001 (Part of CONTACT 2001)
Opening Thursday, May 3, 5 to 8 pm
In this new show from their collection of anonymous snapshots from family albums, the curators work with the theme Water. Playing with the theme, the exhibit displays a range of imagery varying from Niagara Falls to fire hydrants. These small windows into the lives of everyday people are not only beautiful objects, but an important part of our history.

Constructions, laser inkjet prints on canvas, vinyl banners. Parsons' constructions with computer parts are absurd and whimsically funny. Modern electronic junk is reclaimed for its compositional possibilities in order to reveal a new beauty. Parsons, who has exhibited widely in Canada and whose work is in many public collections, teaches at York University. Opening reception with the artist Saturday October 27 from 1-5 pm. More about
