Curated by Catherine Lash and Jennifer Long
May 2 - June 3, 2000 (Part of CONTACT 2000)
Since 1888 when Kodak launched the slogan, "You push the button - we do the rest", the world has fallen in love with the snapshot. For the past year and a half, Catherine Lash and Jennifer Long have been collecting tiny relics of daily life in the form of 20th century anonymous photographs. These small windows into the lives of everyday people are not only beautiful objects, but an important part of our history. Jennifer and Catherine share some examples what they describe as "the most important piece of art existing in every household, the snapshot."

Paintings and Drawings, October 11 - November 11, 2000
The 12 paintings and 21 drawings in this show have not been exhibited previously. "My paintings are about colour, its energy and activity, its interaction and interdependence. My drawings are about the elements that constitute the work: line, direction, shape and surface. My work is ‘abstract’ or non-objective, and it is rigorously planar."

Katja Jacobs: A Drawing Work-in-progress
November 14- December 9, 2000
For two weeks (Nov. 14-25), during daylight hours, Toronto artist Katja Jacobs will be present in the gallery creating the installation. Jacobs will execute a drawing in graphite directly on a gallery wall and assemble a temporary collage of two- and three-dimensional materials. Viewers are welcome to visit Jacobs and interact with the evolution of this work.
For the second two weeks (Nov. 28-Dec. 9), the finished works will be on display. Jacobs: "The imagery would evolve during the making. Season, light, the physical aspects of the place, interaction with viewers, the various ways in which the space is being used would all be part of the project. I think of my installations as a kind of visual theatre."

Christopher Pinheiro: Installation, December 13 - 22, 2000
An installation by the world-renowned designer, Christopher Pinheiro, known for his large-scale spectales, featuring batik and tie-dyed fabric installations and costuming. The installation in the gallery is part of a dance event in Artword Theatre (December 13-16) by Ronald Taylor's Canboulay Dance Theatre, In the Depths of My Palais, based on the African Caribbean tradition of the "palais", a ritual place for celebrations.
