About Artword Press

The name Artword is the common identifier for the many activities and projects of Ronald Weihs and Judith Sandiford (AKA Ron and Judith or Judith and Ron.)

Artword was first a magazine, Artword Artists Forum, a magazine by artists and for artists. It became the name of a theatre company, Artword Theatre Projects, and then Artword Theatre in Toronto. When the theatre building was sold by its owners to a developer, we relocated to Hamilton. We operated a theatre and music cabaret bar, called Artword Artbar for ten years, continuing to produce theatre. We published scripts of some of the plays for sale primarily to the audiences.

We sold Artword Artbar just weeks before Covid-19 put the world on a two-year hiatus.

When the pandemic began to abate, we decided that Artword Press would be the next manifestation of the Artword idea.

While we were doing all our art and theatre, we were running a parallel business creating technical documentation. The name of the company is RCW Documentation Inc. (From a business perspective, Artword Theatre in Toronto, Artword Artbar and Artword Press are all projects of RCW Documentation.)

As technical documentation specialists, we wrote, designed and printed a great many technical manuals and publications. We were pioneers in using the new page layout applications, evolving with the technologies as they developed. (That was how we came to publish a quarterly art magazine for seven years.) We are now transferring this expertise from technical publishing to trade publishing.

One aspect of the Artword approach is to use the new technological resources to reduce the number of people required for routine jobs. We believe that we can accomplish a great deal as a small independent publisher.
