Press Zero:
An Exhibition of Works by
Tracey Bowen, Eva Chris Goldberg and David McClyment
November 23 to December 17, 1999
Opening reception: Saturday, November 27, 2 - 5 pm
Gallery hours: Tuesday-Saturday, noon-6 pm
Press Zero brings together the work of three artists who deal with the mechanics of processing the image. Artists Tracey Bowen, Eva Chris Goldberg and David McClyment each use different approaches, but the focus for all three artists is the image not as a representation of a three-dimensional reality but as a visual vocabulary. Tracey Bowens work "The Consequence of Acceleration" is a series of 11x14" units Polaroid photography overlaid with computer text and other textures and then reproduced via heat transfers onto industrial felt. The work is about confronting the accelerated pace of life presented to us by technology. Tracey has exhibited in a number of group and solo shows in Toronto and Ontario.
Eva Chris Goldberg uses images captured by traditional photographic techniques (large format and pinhole cameras), scanned into a computer and manipulated with photo software. The output is sent to film and printed either on photographic paper, or on heat transfer paper which is then heat-pressed onto hand-made paper. Eva has had exhibitions in Germany and Toronto and has won various awards for computer graphics and photography.
David McClyment explores narrative structures. One series "Nasty Little Paintings" uses four painted panels depicting a closely observed activity (before/after, cause/effect). David is a Toronto-based artist who has had solo exhibitions at Cold City Gallery, Workscene Gallery and group exhibitions in Germany and Italy as well as in Toronto.
The exhibition will remain on display from December 18, 1999 to January 8, 2000 by appointment only
