Artword's first original production in Hamilton, You Are What You Do, opens on Friday, October 16. Reception afterwards. Be there or be square.

A celebration of the lives of working men and women, You Are What You Do features a cast of 6 (plus two musicians), 10 lively songs, and some wonderful stories. It's a lovely show, if we do say so ourselves.

There's a pay-what-you-can preview on Thursday October 15. Show times: Thurs - Sat 15, 16, 17, 23, 24, 25 at 7:30. Sunday Matinees Oct 18, 26 at 2:00 p.m.

Coming Up: This Friday, October 10, Quarter to Nine cabaret, Shari Vandermolen on vocals and Trevor Price on Piano.

Saturday, October 11, A Touch of Klez, playing the wild and crazy music of the Jewish diaspora.

AGH Film Series, “Mongol”: October 8

mongol.jpgThe Fall 2008 AGH film series screens Mongol, a beautifully photographed film of a distant and exotic period in world history, on Wednesday, October 8 at 7:00 pm at the Empire Jackson Square 6 Cinemas, 2 King Street West, downtown Hamilton.

Tickets are $6.00 for AGH Members, $8.00 for students and seniors and $10.00 for general admission.  Tickets may be purchased online in advance at www.artgalleryofhamilton.com, in person at the AGH’s Front Desk during Gallery hours or at the venue door the evening of the screening beginning at 6:30 pm. Artword Theatre, “You Are What You Do”: Oct. 16-19, 23-26

Artword Theatre’s first production in its new home at The Pearl Company, You Are What You Do is an original musical play based on true stories of the lives of working men and women. Written and directed by Artword’s Artistic Director Ronald Weihs, You Are What You Do is a high-spirited ensemble production, with a cast of six plus two musicians, that uses songs, mime and inventive staging to celebrate the energy and imagination of real people.

The production previews Thursday October 16, opens Friday October 17 and runs to Sunday October 26, with shows Thursday to Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm, at The Pearl, 16 Steven Street, Hamilton. More »

October is Art Beyond Sight Awareness Month and the Art Gallery of Hamilton takes great pleasure in joining this important celebration by welcoming new audiences to the Gallery. Throughout the month of October, AGH is pleased to offer Touch Tours for pre-booked groups allowing a broader audience to experience art in new and innovative ways. Access AGH is a new initiative that will be more fully explored in 2009, but in honour of Art Beyond Sight Awareness Month, the Gallery is thrilled to introduce it for this special event. Touch Tours are available for student and adult groups of up to 15 people, and will focus on two to three specially selected works of art. More »

Carless cartoon exhibition, Thurs Oct 2, 2008

Carless_cover.jpgLabour and editorial cartoonist Roy Carless, 87, continues to draw evocative and funny pictures that summarize Canada’s weird and wonderful political scene. During the month of October, The Pearl Company is hosting a show of new Carless black and white drawings.

Join us for the Opening on Thursday October 2, 2008 at 7 p.m. in The Pearl Company’s gallery space. Come and view these new works and meet the artist. Buy a drawing. Buy a copy of Roy’s book, The Carless Cartoon Collection: Not Bad for an Old Bastard (2006, Seraphim Editions) and have Roy sign it. Refreshments. Everyone is welcome!
