Sunday March 7, and Sunday May 2 at 2:00 pm: “Artword Composers Soirée”, Hamilton, a new series of New Music workshops, curated and coordinated by composer/guitarist Wade Whittaker, hosted monthly at Artword Artbar, 15 Colbourne Street, Hamilton.

Sunday May 2:
Wade Whittaker plays his compositions for solo guitar.
Christian Ledroit presents two pieces: Trade Winds (Concerto for Tabla) and Wandering the Threshold of Delirium (for Violin and optional Electronic Accompaniment). We will listen to recordings of these works. Christien will discuss, and then we’ll have a Q&A session.

Accompanying Randal onstage are: Singer/songwriter Suzie Sweetman, always in demand back-up vocalist, and as you will see, an all-around “sparkplug”;
Johnny Frame, on rock-solid guitar and vocals, a long time member of the bluegrass and gospel music circuit; and John McNaughton, veteran bluegrass acoustic bassist (and fine vocalist) rounds out the group. Read more…

The theme of the evening is compassion. Musically the evening will be mystical and supernatural through the sounds of Indian Sitar and other instruments, mostly Indian classical music with the elements of folk and gazhals. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Haiti Relief Fund at St. Joseph’s. Call 905-543-8512

In Artword Artbar: 7-10 pm, the VOC Silent Film Harmonic from KW area brings a treat — short silent films and live music accompaniment, all evening in rotation. The films: Voyage Dans La Lune (about 10min.); The Great Train Robbery (about 10min.); Cops (18min.); Un Chien Andalou (16min.); Odilon Redon (5min.). Performers are: Ted Harms – bass, Paul Haslem – guitar, Wade Whittaker – guitar. Catch one or two films, or stay for all.

Sat Mar 20, 3 pm: artist talk in the gallery: Tadek Sobierajski answers the riddle “How is an artist like a marathon runner?” Tadek is currently training for the ‘Run Around the Bay’ on March 28. He’ll tell you how running changed how his understanding of his work as an artist.

Tadek Sobierajski’s new drawings and paintings are explorations of repetitive mark-making with line and colour that reveal unexpected subconscious imagery. Tadek begins with many loose gestural lines overlapping and intersecting in layers. These coalesce into patterns of light and dark energy that sometimes suggest a form, bodies, a face. Read more…
