Dave_Gould_antlerposter1_cDave_Gould_Poster_680Friday October 10, 2014, James North Art Crawl, music and art and craft beer on tap. In the Gallery: special guest tonight is musician/sculptor/zany guy Dave Gould, with an installation mainly of his instruments made of bones. And in the bar, Dave will demonstrate and perform on the instruments. The show is called “TO THE BONE” – from Dave Gould’s Audiotorium Collection.
Dave explains: “I am inspired to re-purpose objects in unique ways whether it is with my electro-acoustic sculptures/instruments or visual art. It is my hope that people will be inspired to perceive their environments in new ways and find art in everyday life. I am also intrigued by the blurring of lines between what is visual and what is musical which prompts the question, “Is that a musical instrument or a sculpture?”
The installation will remain on view for the month of October.

PERLHAZEOFFICIAL_680cFriday July 11, 2014, from 8:15 pm, tip jar. An Art Crawl special treat: PerlHaze, a new project by two well-known jazz singers Sophia Perlman and Terra Hazelton. Join us at Artword Artbar, as they preview their new material and their new approach to harmonising. They want to perform at Art Crawl to show as many people as possible the wonderful things they are up to.
“Toronto-based singers Terra Hazelton and Sophia Perlman have discovered a mutual love for music, harmonies and songwriting that goes far beyond the borders of their respective jazz careers. They are taking their first steps as aspiring songwriters, and learning to play (at press time) six instruments between them, and fine-tuning their uncanny vocal blend. As bootcamp before they record their own first full-length album in the fall, they are trekking across Western Canada, armed with their new-found harmony super-powers, and little collection of early recordings of the music that inspires them most.”  http://www.perlhaze.com/

ECT_Cadieux_cNovember 7 to 17, 2013, a two-week run of Sky Gilbert’s new play An Evening with Lucky Jim Lacroix, written and directed by Sky Gilbert, featuring Stephanie Jones and Jason Cadieux of ECT (Essential Collective Theatre Company). The play is an up close and personal conversation with contract killer Lucky Jim (Jason Cadieux) who has agreed to give a talk at a local community centre in the hopes of earning brownie points for his upcoming parole hearing. The play is a darkly comic look at contemporary obsession with the “righteous kill”, morality and the inadequacies of our justice system. “Audiences that saw ETC’s production of CRACK by Sky Gilbert will remember that Sky is not afraid to challenge his audiences with tough questions about politics, sex and modern morality.”
